My lady friend and I have changed the status of our relationship.
We both knew that the philosophical differences between us could be a challenge. Over the past few days, I realized that these differences made the chances for our romantic relationship to be unrealistic. It's all good though, as we plan to remain good friends. After discussing this today, I remained at her house working on her computers until about 10pm.

Back on January 10th I was checking out the Personal Ads on Craigslist. Browsing through the Women for Men ads, I saw one Titled:
"Looking for a nice guy - 42 (Fairport)"
I replied to the ad and within 90 minutes she responded to me.
We talked on the phone, then she and I met for lunch that Friday.
During our phone calls, which have occurred every day, I also got to 'talk' to both her 15yo and 13yo .
The 4 of us all went out for Chinese Buffet a week ago Friday.
That Sunday I helped her study biology, that evening we had dinner at her house.
Again they had me over for dinner on Monday.
This Friday she and I went to the Amerks game. After the game we came to my place to feed my cat and hung out for a few hours, before returning to her place to crash.
Saturday we went out and did all kinds of errands and shopping again having dinner at her house.

We get along great, are able to talk about anything, both enjoy huging kissing and snuggling, I get along with both of her , and MOST importantly my cat likes her, and her cat appears to have bonded with me.

Looking forward to a happy future together.

Saturday evening fun - "Roll Em"

Saturday, my friend and co-worked Bill and I made plans to hang out together. We had two ideas of what to do.
1. Go see the local Wrestling Matches at the Auditorium.
or
2. Go see the Roller Derby at the Dome Arena.

We have both seen Pro-wrestling before, so curiosity got the better of us, and we went to see Roller Derby. Bill read that you could get advance sale tickets for $10, so I tried to see about getting them at the Dome Center. I had no success, but briefly spoke with one of the ladies who thought she knew me from RIT.

Bill and I met at Applebee's in Henrietta for dinner, then headed to the arena. Not being able to get advance sale tickets, we had to pay the full $12 per ticket. Not bad for an enjoyable evening.

While the PA system at the Dome Arena leaves something to be desired, after a while between watching the match and talking with some of the people around us, we picked up the basic rules of the game. There were two matches, in both matches the Rochester teams defeated their opponent.

In the first match, the A Team completely outclassed the visiting team from Providence RI. The crowd favorite appeared to be a Rochester skater who skates under the name of "Toxin Dioxin". Everyone associated with Roller Derby has unique names, most of the names are a play on words, such as the names of other Rochester Skaters:
Thea Pocalypse, Emasculate 'Em and Muffy Stopheles.

In the second match, Rochester's B Team pulled away from the Syracuse area team, Assault City's Fresh Meat. The match started out evenly matched, with the score tied at times in the first half.

Once I figured out the basics of the game, it was much easier to wathc and follow. Between matches, I was talking with one of the women from the Providence team. Roller derby is not the sport of the same name that existed decades ago. They only skate on flat tracks not banked ones, and the sport is more a sport than a roller skate wearing female version of Pro Wrestling as it was in the past.

The sport is fledgling, with the teams supporting themselves through dues, door proceeds. and the hunt for sponsoring companies. The host team shares the proceeds from events with the visiting teams to help them cover their travel and lodging costs.

None of the ladies in this volunteer activity are getting rich from it.

I look forward to going to see their final home event of this season, Sat Nov 14th again at the Dome Arena.

You can check out the sport at the Rochester Roller Derby web site rocderby.com

While the turnout was not huge, there were a total of 8 people at the get together tonight.

I definitely had a super time getting to actually meet live and in person, people whom I have known through this blog venue in some cases FOR YEARS.

It appeared a good time was had by all. We chatted about life in general, as well as out times here on LesbianPersonals.

Thanks to those who were there:
gonecoastal2000 - 'GC' who suggested I set it up
KingCuminator - who escorted the lovely GC
lookinnflirtin - 'flirty' coming all the way from PennYan with
Dosrev - AKA: Mr. Flirty
velvttouch - despite her back pain, great to finally meet you!
as well as a longtime friend of Dosrev and his female friend, for both of whom, their screen names I ashamedly forget. - sorry

Driving Pet Peeves. (Turn Signals????)

I tend to do mostly highway driving here in Rochester, and see this issue on an almost daily basis.
I live by the Airport (rt390) and work by Linden Oaks (rts 441 & 490). I tend to go 390s -> 590n -> 490e -> 441e to get to work, and to get home either backtrack this same pattern, or depending on what I have to do on the way home I go 490w -> 390.

People changing lanes without using their turn signals.
It is the law and while I realize I am probably one of the rare people that usually uses my turn signals even if I am the only person within vision on the road, isn't it common sense to use them?
If the driver is no where near another driver on the road, I realize it is no big deal. My feathers get ruffled when there is traffic on the roads, and the lane changing driver is within a couple of car lengths from the other vehicles on the road. Now I have been driving for 27 years this coming July 01. I have done a majority of my driving in the northeastern United States (Primarily in: Western CT, Central PA, NYC Metro Area, Detroit Metro Area, North Eastern NJ, and here in the Greater Rochester Area.) with occasional driving experiences in other areas of the country. (Including: Many areas in Arizona, Los Angeles CA, Seattle WA, Dallas TX, Baltimore - Washington DC, Central WI and Boston MA)

Of all of these areas, I would have to rate Northeast NJ as the worst. It is NO WONDER that NJ has the highest auto insurance rates in the country. It almost seemed that in Northeast NJ, IF you use your turn signal, other drivers will try to BLOCK you out!

The area that I perceived to have drivers that were the most courteous and followed the traffic rules was Central Wisconsin.

WHY????
It's not like it takes anything away from your ability to drive, nor does it even require any effort to use turn signals.

Are people just THAT lazy, stupid, selfish, or ignorant???

Just a few things that really rub me the WRONG way.

1. Using texting/ IMing slang in a blog or Email.

2. Atrocious spelling.

3. When someone says goodbye, they say "have a good one"
- Whatever happened to Have a good day", or "Have a nice day"?
It's the same number and sized words. WHY THE CHANGE????

How old does one have to be to be considered

As next Thursday I will be celebrating my 43rd birthday, it made me start to think. There are milestones we all reach in our lives that happen as we reach a certain age.

Depending on the state you live in, you can get your Driver's License at the age of 16 or 17.
You can get married without parental permission at 17 or 18.
You can register to vote when you reach 18.
In most states you can legally drink when you reach the age of 21.
You can rent a car at the age of 25.

But how old does a person have to be to be considered 'old'?
Is there a certain age that we reach, and everyone else says - "Yup, he's old now".

And WHO is it who makes this decision?
The state?
The courts?
Your parents?
Your ?
Your friends?
Society?

Or is it more a state of mind?

After spending a couple of days doing heavy exertion, I can remember times when I was in my teens or twenties feeling as if I had been run over by a truck "OLD".

At other times I have had great days where I was happy and enjoying life. At these times I felt like a again.

Remembering the things that have happened in my life:
1st man on the moon.
Lowering the voting age from 21 to 18.
11 Presidential elections. All but the first Super Bowl.
Technological growth: VCRs, PCs, DVDs, cell phones, and more.
Gasoline at under 30 cents a gallon.
First class postage stamp less than 10 cents.

Reminiscing about things we've done, people we've known, or how long we have done certain things can cause both extremes of how we feel.

I remember talking to my ex-fiancee's 17yo about when you first start to drive. In doing so I realized that 'yikes' I had been driving for OVER 25 years already.

Last year my High School Graduating Class celebrated or 25th Anniversary.

This May I will have graduated with my two BS degrees 22 and 20 years ago.

Then I look at all that I have yet to do and to achieve in my life, as well as my potential longevity, based on the fact that the average age my four grandparents were when they passed on was over 90 (98, 95, 91 and 79).

So how old is old?

All appeared fine here last weekend. The landlady's niece appeared to innocently come to visit from Albany for the day. Then on Tuesday I am out running errands after work, and I get a call from my landlady. Turns out that her niece is starting school here in Rochester and will be needing a place to stay. And she will be staying with her aunt. Welllll, her niece has so much stuff, including a King Sized bed, that the only room big enough is mine. So my landlady tells me that I have until the end of February to find a new place to live.

While I realize this is family, and family should come first. I really didn't want to have to look for a new place to live AGAIN, as I just did this in October. Now if I just needed a place for myself, things would be fairly simple. BUT, not only do I have to find a place to hang my hat, I also have to find someplace with enough storage for all of my stuff, or I have to rent a storage unit (~$80/month add'l), PLUS I have to find someplace that accepts cats. If I had more available cash I'd have no problem, so what I need is to win the lottery, then I wouldn't have to worry about all of this, I could just buy my own place!

A Different Christmas Poem

The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light,
I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight.
My wife was asleep, her head on my chest,
My beside me, angelic in rest.
Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white,
Transforming the yard to a winter delight.

The sparkling lights in the tree I believe,
Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve.
My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep,
Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep.
In perfect contentment, or so it would seem,
So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream.

The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near,
But I opened my eyes when it tickled my ear.
Perhaps just a cough, I didn't quite know, Then the
sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow.
My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear,
And I crept to the door just to see who was near.

Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night,
A lone figure stood, his face weary and tight.
A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old,
Perhaps a Marine, huddled here in the cold.
Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled,
Standing watch over me, and my wife and my .

"What are you doing?" I asked without fear,
"Come in this moment, it's freezing out here!
Put down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve,
You should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!"
For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift,
Away from the cold and the snow blown in drifts.

To the window that danced with a warm fire's light
Then he sighed and he said "Its really all right,
I'm out here by choice. I'm here every night."
"It's my duty to stand at the front of the line,
That separates you from the darkest of times.

No one had to ask or beg or implore me,
I'm proud to stand here like my fathers before me.
My Gramps died at ' Pearl on a day in December,"
Then he sighed, "That's a Christmas 'Gram always remembers."
My dad stood his watch in the jungles of ' Nam ',
And now it is my turn and so, here I am.

I've not seen my own in more than a while,
But my wife sends me pictures, he's sure got her smile.
Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag,
The red, white, and blue... an American flag.
I can live through the cold and the being alone,
Away from my family, my house and my home.

I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet,
I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat.
I can carry the weight of killing another,
Or lay down my life with my sister and brother..
Who stand at the front against any and all,
To ensure for all time that this flag will not fall."

" So go back inside," he said, "harbor no fright,
Your family is waiting and I'll be all right."
"But isn't there something I can do, at the least,
"Give you money," I asked, "or prepare you a feast?
It seems all too little for all that you've done,
For being away from your wife and your ."

Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret,
"Just tell us you love us, and never forget.
To fight for our rights back at home while we're gone,
To stand your own watch, no matter how long.
For when we come home, either standing or dead,
To know you remember we fought and we bled.
Is payment enough, and with that we will trust,
That we mattered to you as you mattered to us."

PLEASE, would you do me the kind favor of sending this to as many people as you can? Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to our U.S service men and women for our being able to celebrate these festivities. Let's try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make people stop and think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for us.

Last week, my ex fiancee and I are talking about the "possible" dispensation for our 2007 Hyundai Tucson SUV. She asked me if I would be assuming making the payments ($270/month) for it. Thinking this was a theoretical conversation at this point, I said I "MIGHT". As I did not know what my monthly living expenses would be down the road. Not to mention the fact that I already have a 1996 Buick Regal (not under a loan) that gets simialr or better mileage to the SUV on the highway. (yes local traffic mileage sucks).
Well the next day, I get home from work, and she tells me that she went out shopping and bought a used car today.

Hmmmmmmmmmm???????????????

I guess she was baiting a hook with the question yesterday, and I bit!

That's ok, I am sure her payments (car and insurance), based on what she states she paid for the car, will be no less than the SUV (probably more).
Also,
1. The SUV is only 1 1/2 years old - we bought it new vs. her car is a few years old, purchased used. (repair costs) Not to mention the SUV has a 10yr 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warrantee.
2. She will have to get her own insurance, as I had added her to mine when we got together, and I get excellent rates due to 20+ years with the same company.
3. I could sell the SUV for little or no loss, as I used monies available to me to reduce the loan balance this last spring.
4. Plus, based on the fact that I used my own personal monies to drop the loan balance by $10,000, the car should rightfully be mine anyway.
