Off on the big silver bird tomorrow night (well 1.30am Wed anyway) to the UK! Getting off the island at last for a while phew! No more Island fever! woohooo!
The wedding we are going to will be fun and also will be great to see our and family of course but have to say am really looking forward to our week in Amsterdam!!!  That is going to be a blast!!!! A whole week in an apartment just off Dam square with our great friends YESS11000 will be just awesome During the day visiting the nice things in the City - hey we really DO enjoy the museums and canal trips etc etc At night though will go wild! woohoo! Trying to persuade the others we should have a party at the apartment and invite some local couples for a fun night. Sounds good to me! Escape! Living on a desert island where the lifestyle is easy and you have lots of great friends would seem like most peoples' idea of heaven - well it is for us - most of the time. Problem is it is SMALL and gets claustrophobic. We call this syndrome "island fever". We just get fed up seeing the same places and same faces EVERY day. We love our friends dearly and adore where we live but is like getting up every morning and ALWAYS having the same breakfast cereal to eat. So from time to time it is great to get away from here and simply see different things. I have been thinking of the things I will miss and the things I look forward to seeing and doing when back in the UK. Some are obvious but others.....
To see rain again will be nice. Hasnt rained here in MONTHS! Would never have thought as a growing up in the Scottish Highlands that I would ever miss rain. Sunshine EVERY day though gets wearing. We miss trees. Date palms everywhere here and other types of palm trees too but seeing an old oak or huge chestnut or a pine forest is a lovely thought. Normal green grass! Not the rough tough stuff that grows here but the soft dark green grass that grows up North we look forward to seeing again. Fields of grain and cows and sheep in a field (not in the back of a pick up truck!) will be great to see. Am serious - last time I saw a sheep he was in the cab of a pick up truck sitting in the front next to the driver! Bizarre place we do live in at times!
what else? Young pretty girls wearing tight clothes - or very little clothes - in the street and in bars. We do get fed up seeing beautiful girls dressed in black bags! Couples walking hand in hand or arm in arm in the street instead of having to have a three foot exclusion zone between them. Walking in the street - hardly anybody walks anywhere here - the car is ubiquitous! Sensible driving! Driving standards here are appalling! Every day somebody gets killed by a nutcase hammering at 60mph plus through a red light. The carnage on the roads here is simply unbelievable! Nobody throwing trash or spitting in the street - bliss! One of our pet hates - people opening their car doors when at traffic lights and gobbing on the road! arrgh disgusting! Littering is also endemic - can be very dirty people here at times.
NOT looking forward to - violence and aggresive behaviour. Having been living here for 9 years we are used to total safety and security in the streets and at home. England seems now to be such an aggresive place - we dislike that feeling intensely. Have to remember to not leave things in the car on view. Come to that have to remember to lock the car! Dont leave wallet and mobile phone lying around. Watch handbags (Mrs that is!) and cameras and watch out for pickpockets. Dont look other people in the eye if you dont know them ("who are you looking at pal?" sigh). Dont expect good service in restaurants - do we expect ANY form of service?
Thing I am LEAST looking forward to though - having to spend a whole WEEK with Mrs' mother! Oh ye gods! TORTURE! arrrgh!
Will be away from here for the whole of June. By the end of the month we will be back in "Island mood" the fever will be gone and we wont be able to get back here soon enough. When we get back the temperatures will be in the 40s every day (and night) humidity will be in the 90s every day (worse at night) but hey being home again in our little slice of heaven is worth all that.
Nice to get away but isnt it nice to get back home again?

yep have finally gone and done it! SET is now officially old! arrrgh! FIFTY!!!! AAAARRRGH! Several people have said to me "age is only a number". I have noticed that those that say that are usually under 40 lol Do I feel any different? Oh yes - last week!
Grief nearly finished myself off totally! Tuesday the biggest booze company on the island had a golf day - no prizes for guessing what state I was in when I got away from that at nearly 10pm - had been there since 11am! I have NO memory of leaving that place at around 4 am hehehehe Hey you got to get pissed at your own 50th birthday party right? May as well start of the new half century the way I had lived most of the first!
So on into Thursday - good god I did not feel very well when I woke up! Wake up I did though and pottered around the house naked all day. Same as most days actually - including right now hehehe - one of the benefits of working at home! lol The evening was all planned out. RULES of Bedroom Golf:
1. Each player shall furnish his own equipment for play, normally one club and two balls.
2. Play on course must be approved by the owner of the hole.
3. Unlike outdoor golf, the object is to get the club in the hole and keep the balls out.
4. For most effective play, the club should have a firm shaft. Course owners are permitted to check shaft stiffness before play begins.
5. Course owners reserve the right to restrict club length to avoid damage to the hole.
6. Object of the game is to take as many strokes as necessary until the owner is satisfied play is complete. Failure to do so may result in
being denied permission to play again.
7. It is considered bad form to begin playing the hole immediately upon arrival. Experienced players will normally take time to admire the
entire course, paying special attention to well formed mounds and bunkers.
8. Players are cautioned not to mention other courses they have played or are currently playing to the owner of the course being played.
Upset owners have been known to damage a players equipment for this reason.
9. Players are encouraged to have proper rain gear, just in case.
10. Players should not assume that the course is in shape to play at all times. Players may be embarrassed if they find the course temporarily under repair. Players are advised to be extremely tactful in this situation. More
advanced players will find alternate means of play when this is the case.
11. Players should assume their match has been properly scheduled particularly when playing a new course for the 1st time. Previous players
have been known to become irate if they discover someone else is playing what they considered a private course.
12. The owner of the course is responsible for the pruning of any bushes, which may reduce the visibility of the hole.
13. Players are strongly advised to get the owners permission before attempting to play the backside.
14. Slow play is encouraged, however, players should be prepared to proceed at a quicker pace at the owners request.
15. It is considered an outstanding performance, time permitting, to play the same hole several times in one match.

For the first time in months (years?) I actually did an whole week of work - ye gods was a shock to the system I can tell you! You know the odd thing? I enjoyed myself - guess I miss the action more than I care to admit huh? Pissed me off when i had to turn down a couple of golf matches tho - my friends were shocked when i told them I couldnt play as i was working - sure they thought I was sick or something hehehe.
Still got a couple of great games in over the weekend and won them both so hey who's your Daddy? hehehehe What is even better is that Chelsea thrashed the red and white Manc shite (aka Manchester United for the unintiated) 3 nil! We are the Champions AGAIN!!!! wooohoo!! That will shut the bastards up for a while. They have been trying to tell everybody that they are better and they would spoil our party etc etc and we bloody hammered them! As the song says "things can only get better!" European Champions League next year - insh'allah anyway.

has been a torrid time since my last post in here, lots going on. My life at times resembles a roller coaster - up down woops upside down twiddly dee dee - can be exciting but keep it up too long and you want to be sick lol. Friends being ill - getting better - then being ill again. Mrs being ill - getting better - then.... well you get the picture. So not a lot of playing going on to keep the smile going. Still Mrs is still around and friends are still around, and THAT is a good reason to smile isn't it? Even if I do have to run around with a broom and dustpan catching the bits falling off of them at times hahaha.
At least Chelsea was doing well .....until tonight aaargh! We lost waaaah! What is worse we lost to bloody Liverpool (grrrh scouse bastards grrrrh swish swish) - we were crap tho so can't moan too much. Bloody Joe Cole (wanker) missed a sitter with the last kick of the match silly bloody sod! Still we can win the league on Saturday against the other lot of Lancastrian red and white shite so another reason to smile
The only clouds on the horizon is the approach of the World Cup. Don't get me wrong I love football as you all know and even though Scotland aren't there I am really looking forward to the matches and the competition. What I am NOT looking forward to though is the English going on and on and on about 19 fucking 66. They winge moan and gripe about Maradonna's handball that knocked THEM out of the Cup but crow and celebrate the fact that they cheated West Germany out of the Final at Wembley. Is there anything worse than the English press when they win something? When it comes to International football we Scots support two teams a) Scotland and b) anybody playing England! A great Scottish player once put it beautifully "the Scots don't care who beat England ...as long as somebody does!"
Ok that's enough English bashing for one evening - my wife is English and both my were born there so they can't be all that bad can they? Or can they? hmmmm hehehe

Is a rather sad SET writing here today. There is a disconsolate air here in Bahrain this week as you can imagine. Difficult to smile when our little paradise has been hit so badly. This is a small country (one of the smallest in the world) and the expatriate community here is a small part of that population. Inevtiable therefore that the boat sinking has touched all our lives. No close friends of mine were on the boat (thankfully I say selfishly) however there were several people Mrs and I knew and liked. People we would say hello to and pass the time of day with and share a smile. Good people who simply were enjoying an evening out celebrating. How very very sad. Those who lived in London in the late 80s will remember well the Marchioness disaster - you know therefore who we feel here now. Was driving past the Bay with Mrs this morning when out doing our errands and she was in tears at the awfulness of it all. Spare a thought for the families guys and gals, they need all the good thoughts they can get.

mad social whirl here in Bahrain. How the hell did I manage to get myself into THREE things today? Playing golf this afternoon then rushing off from there to a dinner then rushing off from there to a party!
