Gas spike across West Michigan

A gallon of regular unleaded gasoline now costs around $3.89 at several West Michigan stations.

For drivers whose vehicles take premium, in many cases those prices are more than $4 per gallon.

Some stations haven't raised prices yet, so motorists are encouraged to fill up before the work week kicks off Monday.

Some prices jumped 30 cents just Sunday afternoon.

And it's not much better anywhere else either. At this rate, I'll have to invest in a to get around.

ST. JOHNS -- A 35-year-old Pewamo woman faces felony charges after authorities say she hid in the trunk of another woman's car Monday armed with a stun gun.

Authorities say Nichole Marie Munson, who is being held without bond at the Clinton County Jail, knew the victim, a 39-year-old St. Johns woman. Munson's ex-husband is the victim's current boyfriend, said Clinton County sheriff's Detective Sgt. Fritz Sandberg.
Munson apparently got into the car's trunk at Michigan State University, where the victim works, Sandberg said.
According to a news release from the sheriff's office:
The victim was driving home late Monday afternoon when she noticed the dashboard indicator light showing the trunk was open. She stopped and tried to open and shut the trunk, but was unable to do so.
She then tried to get into the trunk by pulling down the back seat and was confronted by a suspect dressed in all black, wearing latex gloves and large sunglasses. The victim saw a stun gun next to the suspect.
The victim ran and was helped by two people. The suspect then drove from the scene in the car.
Soon after, Clinton County sheriff's deputies -- who pursued the car briefly but lost sight of it -- found it abandoned in a driveway a few miles away
Detectives arrested Munson Tuesday. She was arraigned today in 65th District Court on charges of car-jacking, assault with intent to commit a felony, unlawful driving away of a motor vehicle and fleeing a police officer.
A preliminary hearing, which determines if Munson will stand trial, is set for March 17.

Teena Marie, known as 'Ivory Queen of Soul,' dies

Teena Marie's last album, "Congo Square," was titled after a historical meeting place for slaves in New Orleans, featured a tribute to Martin Luther King's widow and also song "Black Cool," written for President Barack Obama. No matter that Marie, 54, was white. The R&B legend revered and fully immersed herself in black culture — and in turn was respected and adored by black audiences, not only for her immense soulful talents, but for her inner soul as well.
"Overall my race hasn't been a problem. I'm a Black artist with White skin. At the end of the day you have to sing what's in your own soul," she told Essence.com in an interview last year while promoting "Congo Square." That album would turn out to be her last.
The self-proclaimed "Ivory Queen of Soul," whose many classic hits included "Lovergirl," Square Biz" and the scorching duet "Fire and Desire" with mentor Rick James, was found dead in her Pasadena home on Sunday at the age of 54. Authorities said her death appeared to be of natural causes.
In an interview with The Associated Press last year, Teena Marie said she had successfully battled an addiction to prescription drugs; she had been performing over the last year.
"The enduring influence of Teena's inspirational, trailblazing career, could only have been made possible through her brilliant song-writing, showmanship and high energy passion which laid the ground work for the future generations of R&B, hip-hop, and soul," said Concord Music Group chief label officer, Gene Rumsey; Concord's Stax Records released her last album.
"We feel extremely fortunate to have worked with a visionary who changed music in indelible ways. Our deepest sympathies go out to her family, friends and of course, millions of fans around the world."
Marie certainly wasn't the first white act to sing soul music, but she was arguably among the most gifted and respected, and was thoroughly embraced by black audiences, and beyond.
Even before she started her musical career, she had a strong bond with the black community, which she credited to her godmother. She gravitated to soul music and in her youth decided to make it her career.
Marie made her debut on the legendary Motown label back in 1979, becoming one of the very few white acts to break the race barrier of the groundbreaking black-owned record label that had been a haven for black artists like Stevie Wonder, the Jackson Five, the Supremes and Marvin Gaye.
The cover of her debut album, "Wild and Peaceful," did not feature her image, with Motown apparently fearing black audiences might not buy it if they found out the songstress with the dynamic, gospel-inflected voice was white.
"(Motown founder Berry) Gordy) said that is was so soulful that he wanted to give the music an opportunity to stand on its own merit. Instead of my face, they put a seascape, so by the time my second album came out people were like, Lady T is White?" she told Essence.com
Marie was the protege of the masterful funk wizard James, with whom she would have long, turbulent but musically magical relationship.
Marie notched her first hit, "I'm A Sucker for Your Love," with the help of James on that album. But the time her second album was released, her face was known — and on the cover of the record. But there was not a backlash — she would only get more popular on her way to becoming one of R&B's most revered queens. During her tenure with Motown, the singer-songwriter and musician produced passionate love songs and funk jam songs like "Need Your Lovin'," "Behind the Groove."
Marie's voice was the main draw of her music: Pitch-perfect, piercing in its clarity and wrought with emotion, whether it was drawing from the highs of romance or the mournful moments of a love lost. But her songs, most of which she had a hand in writing, were the other major component of her success.
Tunes like "Cassanova Brown" "Portuguese Love" and "Deja Vu (I've Been Here Before)" featured more than typical platitudes on love and life, but complex thoughts with rich lyricism. "Deja vu" was a song about reincarnation.
And "Fire and Desire," a duet with James about a former couple musing about their past love, was considered a musical masterpiece and a staple of the romance block on radio stations across the country.
Marie left Motown in 1982 and her split became historic: She sued the label and the legal battle led to a law preventing record labels from holding an artist without releasing any of their music.
She went to Epic in the 1980s and had hits like "Lovergirl" and "Ooo La La La" but her lasting musical legacy would be her Motown years.
Still, she continued to record music and perform. In 2004 and 2006 she put out two well-received albums on the traditional label Cash Money Records, "La Dona" and "Sapphire."
James, who had a romantic relationship with Marie but also a long friendship, died in 2004. His death shook her so she said she became addicted to Vicodin, which she had been taking for pain, for about a year.
But Marie said she successfully battled that addiction. In 2008, she talked about her excitement of being honored by the R&B Foundation.
Marie was the mother of a teenage who was budding singer; she would sometimes bring her onstage to sing during her shows.
In 2009, she celebrated 30 years in the recording industry, and planned for many more.
"All in all, it's been a wonderful, wonderful ride," she told The Associated Press in 2008. "I don't plan on stopping anytime soon."

The comedian helped spread a little early holiday cheer Friday when he came to the aid of a mom-to-be who went into labor at a New Jersey shopping mall.

Rock, 45, was shopping at Neiman Marcus at the Garden State Plaza mall when a woman's water broke a few feet away from him, just as she was about to step on the escalator.

The Grown Ups star, who has two with wife Malaak, used his trademark humor to keep the woman -- and a crowd of concerned shoppers -- calm until an ambulance was called.

"He was making the crowd and the woman in labor laugh," an eyewitness tells Us. "She recognized who he was immediately and he stayed there until the paramedics took her away."

No word yet on the mother and 's condition

Anyway, I welcome any who read this to list theirs as well And my list (there were several others that came to mind but I stuckw ith my listing of ten):

Johnny Depp Surprises British Classroom With Visit From Captain Jack Sparrow

I thought this was a really cool thing that Depp did--------->
While Disney has created a very successful brand in its Princess line, at least one of the company's young female fans is passionate about another of its iconic characters.

Beatrice, a 9-year-old student at a school in London's Greenwich neighborhood, wrote a letter to Captain Jack Sparrow, the character made famous by Johnny Depp in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie series. The letter made its way to Depp -- who's in England at the moment, shooting the fourth film in the franchise, "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" -- and he made a surprise visit to Beatrice's school, according to BBC News.

A 2-minute clip of his in-character visit has made it to the Internet, but reportedly he spent 15 minutes in all with Beatrice and her classmates. And though the reason for Beatrice's letter was to seek Captain Jack's advice on staging a mutiny against her teachers, Captain Jack went against his renegade principles, diplomatically recommending to Beatrice that a mutiny would probably get her into trouble.

Here's a pic of the event, captured by what seems to be a cell phone camera.

Bang! Pow! '60s-Style Batmobile Replicas for Sale by Claudine Zap · September 28, 2010
Holy tricked-out ride, Batman! The '60s-style Batmobile is now available -- for those with Bruce Wayne bank accounts -- in life-sized replica form.

DC Comics has officially licensed Fiberglass Freaks to re-create, down to the flame throwers (working, natch), the futuristic car that the Caped Crusader drove in the 1960s TV series.

For $150,000, you too could keep Gotham City safe. Or at least look really, really cool while sitting in traffic.

Each car frame is built around a 1970s Lincoln Town Car. And only eight of these hand-crafted beauties roll off the factory floor each year. Company founder Mark Racop has been perfecting the design pretty much his entire life, way before he got the official go-ahead. According to his website, the Batmobile-obsessive fell in love with the car from the show at the tender age of two.

Sports star takes inspiration from Batmobile >>

The cars are road-ready and come equipped with a GM 350 crate engine, Radir wheels with custom bat spinners, and a paint job only a superhero wanna-be could love. And need we mention the bat-wing shaped tail fins? This car gives new meaning to joy ride.

And because these wheels are pimped up, the 1966 Batmobile also comes equipped with some very 2010 additions: a DVD player with LCD screen in the dash (to play re-runs of the series, obviously) and a high-end stereo to blast the "Batman" theme song.

Cape not included.

This is a classic if ever I read one,you really have to wonder what was going thru her head. Check it----------->
COVINGTON, La. (AP) - A 29-year-old Michigan woman stripped while in the back seat of a cab, demanded the driver take her to her home state and, when he refused, stole his vehicle.

Covington Police Capt. Jack West told The Times-Picayune that the driver picked up Jennifer Gille, of St. Clair Shores, Mich., about 1 a.m. Sunday from a motel and was driven to a destination south of the city. But, West says Gille refused to get out, took off her clothes and demanded the cabbie take her to Michigan.

The driver then drove to a police station for help. West says that's when, Gille got into the front seat and drove off. Police found the cab parked about a block away. Gille, still naked, was in the back seat.

Police booked Gille on charges of unauthorized use of a movable and obscenity.

10 fascinating flirting facts

I came across this little article on my internet homepage. It had some pretty interesting facts and some ideas too. And now without further delay, the facts:
1. Flirting is good for you. Studies show that people who flirt have higher white blood-cell counts, which boost both immunity and health.

2. Think batting your eyelashes is enough? Wrong! All told, scientists say there are 52 “flirting signals” used by humans. Of these, the hair-flip technique is the most common.

3. In some places, flirting is illegal. In Little Rock, AR, an antiquated law is still on the books warning that engaging in playful banter may result in a 30-day jail term. In New York City, another outdated law mandates that men may be fined $25 for gazing lasciviously at a female; a second conviction stipulates the offender wear a pair of blinders whenever he goes out for a walk.

4. Why wait for Friday? Lots of people get their flirt on during their morning commute. A full 62 percent of drivers have flirted with someone in a different vehicle while on the go, and 31 percent of those flirtations, it turns out, resulted in a date. 5. Flirting need not occur face to face. According to the Pew Research Center, 40 percent of people who look for love online say they can easily flirt with someone via email or IM.

6. In the Victorian era, fans were the ultimate playful props that could communicate all sorts of messages. A fan placed near the heart meant “You have won my love.” A half-opened fan pressed to the lips was an invitation, saying, “You may kiss me.” Hiding the eyes behind an open fan meant “I love you,” while opening and closing the fan several times was a chastisement, implying, “You are cruel.” Given how much a fan could come in handy, it’s a shame they ever invented air conditioning.

7. These days, cell phones do the flirting for you. In one survey, half of all mobile phone users have texted flirty messages to keep things interesting while separated from their amour.

8. Watch out; you can overdo it. According to the Social Issues Research Centre, the most common mistake people make when flirting is maintaining too much eye contact.

9. Sometimes, flirty gestures aren’t what they seem to be. Research has shown that men tend to routinely mistake friendly behavior for flirting.

10. Flirting is universal. A woman living in New York City and one in rural Cambodia may not have much in common, but when it comes to attracting a little attention, they both employ the very same move: smiling, arching their eyebrows, then averting their gaze and giggling. Animals flirt, too: birds, reptiles, and even fish have their own way of making romantic advances. The moral of the story: If the simple sea bass can act cute in order to further a romantic agenda, you can, too — so give it a go!
