Toxic Masculinity

Toxic Masculinity

Why is masculinity seen as toxic? As a woman, it is a mans masculinity, a mans manliness, the way that he smells and the way that he moves/uses his body, that attracts me to a man.
A man must “do the work” to develop his own independence and grow into a “relaxed masculine confidence” that is not threatened by the feminine. Something magical and unexpected happens when men help each other do this. (taken from the MeToo movement).
So many men that I am coming in contact with are unsure of themselves and their sexuality, almost as if being a man and being manly is a bad thing, I do not have answers and would be very interested to hear what the group has to say

"Toxic masculinity" is a two-word label, not the labeling of all masculinity as toxic. Unfortunately, English can be very grammatically ambiguous in some ways, including how descriptors work.

So that said, there is a set of behaviors considered to be masculine which feminism has labeled as toxic. As BiggLala says, you can research this to see which behaviors fall under the umbrella of this label. Male entitlement is a big part of toxic masculinity so you may like to read more about that as well.

Hi Fresno, Yes I am reading all that I can as I have been at the wrong end of male and female toxic masculinity for most of my life, which society has always excused one way or another. It is only now that we are starting to recognise these bad behavioural traits as something that needs to be dealt with.

In the days of old when men were bold there was toxic masculinity. However even in those days it was delt with quite severely in this part of the world.

In today's world everything has become so politically correct that men these days are afraid of major cases of litigation against them.

The possible solution may lay in simple good ethics being thought to all as in the old days of when it took a village to raise a child.

Hello John, Yes I think that our society or perhaps the lack of community society where we could once rely on as you say your family, neighbours and friends of the village, to keep every one on an even keel, from a behaviour point of view. Examples were set with morals, respect was earnt by the goodwill shown and self respect grew out of achievement not only for oneself but for the community. A man was recognised for and by his strength not only of character but his purpose, his masculinity was not in question. The toxicity comes from bad behaviour, lack of self control, lack of understanding, lack of education and lack of discipline from both sides of the spectrum, male and female.

The word, "Toxic" , applied to "Masculinity" , and for that matter, also applied to "Femininity", is wrong.

There's, "Bad behavior" [that's all] , of both genders. We don't need this retarded #metoo concept of "Toxic Masculinity".

There's nothing wrong with men being violent, unemotional/stoic, and sexually aggressive...... Nothing wrong with that at all!!! ... Boys will be boys; that means they rough-house [play rough] ....don't fuck with his development. If you're a woman reading this, and you have boys at home, go make some cookies and leave your boys to being boys.

You women do NOT want to have a bunch of sissy metrosexual feminized men with their masculinity groomed away from them walking by your side. I promise you, if women keep trying this stupid nonsense, a more masculine and stronger patriarchal culture will invade, and take over.

Stop messing with your male children. It's borderline child abuse to fuck with his development into a man.

Toxic masculinity isn't a labeling of all masculinity, it's a contrast to healthy masculinity.

Men treating women as prey is toxic masculinity. Other men violently suppressing such predators is healthy masculinity.

Following my advice may cause injury, insanity, financial loss, hemorrhoids, death and superpowers

I think toxic blokieness is being disrespectful to others. Shouting 'get your tits out' or the like. It's treating others like objects rather than persons. Allowing bullying because 'it's what blokes do' is toxic.

Being manly, replacing lightbulbs, rescuing puppies from burning buildings with your top off that's ok. But demanding the lassy take her top off while I change the light bulb...that's less good.

Men treating women as prey is toxic masculinity. .... You mean to say, "Bad behavior". ... And even so you would be wrong.

What you mean by "Prey"... is also vague. Once again, you're not clear.

There's room for different opinions.

“You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours.” - Sir Charles Napier
