9 months after 9/11 a friend called me and told me i knew someone at the World Trade Center...

I had worked with her in Ohio on a project for almost a year during 2000. She was a hard working woman. She managed a group of programmers while working at an insurance company. Everyone liked her... She wasn't particularly attractive. But, she was always presentable and friendly. No one had anything but good things to say about her.

She told me her husband liked to work on classic cars and did total restorations on them from the ground up. She said they would take weekend trips in these cars once they were restored and they would talk with people everywhere they went.

We would go to lunch periodically because I liked to meet people that I worked with away from the office. You saw a different side of them. She never uttered a bad word about anyone. Our project was a major effort for the company as we were bringing about significant change and she was part of the first wave. She took it all in stride. When I left the project in late 2000, they had a going away lunch for me and, it was nice. She wished me well...

A year later I felt the impact of 9/11. I was hurt, stunned, angry, and so sad about all of the innocent people that perished. But, I didn't know anyone who might have died during that terrible day, or so I thought. Until, a friend of mine, called me out of the blue in June of 2002. And, he told me that our friend was in one of the towers working for a new company that was making a presentation to a financial institution. Unfortunately, they had a 9:00 am meeting schedule on one of the upper floors and they were there quite early.

I asked my friend, why would he call me... and, he said that he thought I would want to know. I thanked him for calling me... but, it really brought it all back to me again... and, although I felt bad the day 9/11 happened. I feel worse now that I know that someone I had broken bread with, someone that didn't deserve any of that... not that anyone does, but, this woman wouldn't hurt a flea... you know, how sometimes you think there are people that might qualify for this or that... well, she didn't qualify...

and, so, today, I feel said for everyone that lost someone that day...

Thanks for sharing and sorry for your specific loss. Many people experienced unfathomable losses on that day. I think most all Americans have felt a loss over this terrible attack on innocent people. We are reminded to tell people that we love them and enjoy life while we have the chance. Pay it forward and make someone smile.

Hi 2tt...

thanks for your comments.

yes, we all felt a terrible loss that day.

I am 100% in agreement of letting people how I feel about them, 'cause you never know if you will have the chance...

when I tell my children that I love them and that I have a good life, they tell me not to say anything else... I still tell them...

thanks again...
