When The Lights Went Out
When The Lights Went Out Author 51 asked this question and this is what happened once whilst travelling in Southern India I was staying in a budget backpackers hotel the shower and facilities were on the third floor and not a single window just a couple of vents. Now it is quite common place in India for the power fail, some of the cheap hotels even turn the power off between 8am and 6pm, not many creature comforts over there and we won't even mention the sewerage system. It was mid afternoon and I headed off take a shower I had just got myself soaped head foot when the power went off, no light but also no water as the water was pumped from the ground floor It was over two hours before the power came back and when it did the water was quite cold, I had passed the time singing, trying recite poetry and anything else that came mind even shouting help a couple of times but nobody heard! I decided that I wasn't going get caught out like that again so I bought a small plastic bucket that fitted inside my rucksack and when taking a shower the bucket a candle and matches were part of the kit, first thing was fill the bucket and find somewhere place the candle before stripping off and bathing, it was also useful for washing clothes undetected as in drought affected areas they didn't take kindly tourists wasting water clothes washing. |
