CBW- Fight on, Manitoba! So is anyone else experiencing total CBW burn out???? LMAO This is hard work keeping up with all the CBW posts lol It's insane!! I, for one, am blown away with the response and enthusiasm and variety of topics and sheer number of posts this week so far lol So anyway, in lieu of something sensible or original today, I want to share a song with you.... Older Manitobans probably remember the 45  from waaaaaaay back....sung/spoken by Uncle Smokey(? I think ).....Just search "Fight on Manitoba"...it'll show up somewhere.... One side was a winter version and the other side of the record was a summer version, I've only found the winter version so far...I'll keep hunting, maybe I can locate the summer version later I just think it's priceless  I laugh every time i hear it So here goes..... "When you live in Winnipeg, and it's the middle of winter, what can you be proud of? When it's 33 below and the wind instantly freezes your fingers as you fumble in your mailbox for the postcard with a picture of a beach and palm trees and a short message from you friend holidaying in Florida and wishing you were here, where is the justice? When you're 10 minutes late in the morning and you discover some nut has pulled the plug from your car and then you remember you forgot to plug it in the night before..... When you're standing on Portage Avenue in a 27 mile an hour breeze for a bus, and it finally arrives, and you discover that you DON'T have the exact change, in fact you don't have ANY change because you left your wallet at the office.... When you stand there with your hand frozen to the shovel after two hours of digging out your driveway, watching your neighbour with a brand new snowblower throwing it all back in again....and you want to scream but no one can hear you because the snowplow is making too much noise and it fills in the rest of your driveway...what is there to be proud of? When it's too cold to go skiing and the letter from your aunt in Vancouver is full of complaints about rain..... When you finally get your car started after waiting for the service man for two and a half hours, and then back into a telephone pole because the frost shield the cop told you you had to put on has a leak in it and you can't see out of your car anyway.... When the whole world is one great frozen icicle clinging to your chin as if it grew there... Where is hope? Well my friends, you CAN be proud, there IS hope..... Be proud, proud of the fact you've survived! Take raw courage in your heart and fight on! Fight on with this thought growing in your mind..... Summer is only six months away and you wouldn't want to miss that wonderful day.... Flirt The losers are those who think that they are elitists enough that they can't go anywhere but in their OWN vehicle and it is their right to do so by themselves (one per to a vehicle). We have a city for those people. It is called Torrrana; home of the largest parking lots in Canada; whoops! they call them freeways. Our Transit system here is efficient, convenient and accommodates intelligent people who realize that a 20 minute bus ride for a toonie is: a) first faster than driving downtown and then finding a parking spot, and b) less expensive than the gas you burn transporting yourself, and c) if you are quick (1 hour), can ride home on your transfer, and d) promotes community where you can actually have a relaxed conversation with some nice real people enroute. Would suggest: stop the elitist attitude with your "bus loser slights", find out the there is a real world out there and realize that the real "losers" are in fact those insular ones who think the world revolves around them, their vehicles and their car horn. Common sense unfortunately is not common - with some people.  Burton did indeed write his Bus Rider song on a bus; others read and learn. Calling fellow citizens "losers" because they have the common sense to use our efficient bus service is just plain IGNORANT. Honk, honk eh. . Yup Flirt, I can take a "joke". The last line of my post was out of order and I did try to delete it but too late. Millions of blogs? It is called "getting organized ahead of time". I did offer to give you some in a posting on your blog. I'd give you the exact posting but there seems be a blockage. If you want some ideas and pics, just let me know. Accumulated lots over the last three weeks. The earlier offer still stands.  I do take the bus on occasion and by design. It is an efficient system and all you need is a cell phone and a stop number. Their website is awesome for "trip planning". I prefer to participate in the community and to talk to real people on the bus. It is much more fun than "texting". .
