A little Legal "Why Bother"?

First I am going to start with a quote I see in many profiles.

"WARNING: Any institutions using this site or any of its associated sites for studies or projects - You do NOT have my permission to use any of my profile or pictures in any form or forum both current and future. If you have or do, it will be considered a serious violation of my privacy and will be subject to legal ramifications"

OK now that we have that over, lets take a close look at it. First off, do not refer to the site as you only have a legal right to speak to your own content, not the entire site. Furthermore, the overal site is govened by the acceptable use policy wish is in fact a legal agreement between the users of the site and the owners.

Next we will deal with "your profile content or pictures" while you already posess a legal copyright (subject to which country you are viewing this from, but most civilized countries do have some form of copyright law with more or less covers this.

HOWEVER, you have also posted this material in a public forum, in which case there is no legal expectation of privacy, no matter what you say or write. As such, there are provisions within the law of most countries (not all) that allow researchers to sample materials for recearch purposes. These people however are not the ones you are really concerned about.

Who are you really concerned about the A$$e$ who frequently procure pictures and lift text to make the annoying "robot" profiles we regularly see pop up every day. Given how many more serious laws they are breaking in conducting thier varied scams, etc. do you really give one rodent's anus for copyright law?

So in summary, give us a break and knock it off with those pointless and meaningless statements. If you want to do something that may actually do something? Put watermarks on your pictures... (preferably with you nick, since this then makes it obvious who they belong to.) Also, in doing so with watermarks, there actually is something that can be used if you were to ever actually attempt any kind of legal action.

I wrote a couple of blogs about this.

(a)Those statements are legally meaningless. If you read the terms of service that we all agreed on when we signed up for this site, LesbianPersonals owns everything we upload and post and can do whatever they want with it.

(b) This is why people are silly. They have that disclaimer to prevent people from seeing their pictures. However, if you google that phrase, you call up, guess what? All of the naked pics these folks are trying to keep private.

I've had LOTS of my photos pirated from here. I used to get pissed, but Hubby has also posted our photos and videos to other sites and they've been pirated, too, so I don't really care any more.
Some people even accuse ME of pirating photos off the internet, because they've seen my photos elsewhere, and think I stole them. LOL!
Bottom line: if you post photos and video, they'll get "borrowed". Accept it or don't post them.
