How to upset a long term member.
How to upset a long term member. I know for the newbies the site says ex number of members are online, but for those of us that have been here a long time know that's not always true. I know I've signed out, gone back hours later and it's shown I've been online all that time That's not what has upset me. There is a notification bar.... who's been looking at your profile and a number of other things. A few times I've been notified that someone has left a message on one of my blogs. Members I've known for a long time, but have not been active for a number of . I've stopped looking at my blog.... just in case, as I know it's not true. What upset was the notification from a very dear friend who I'd been talking off this place for a number of , saying he'd left a message on one of my blogs. My lovely friend passed away almost 5 ago. Ok, he probably didn't want friends know he was on this site, so there was no one let them know he'd passed. Guess now I've caught them out in a lie, I'll drop them an email telling them. |

I'm sorry for your loss, Marysia. Even 5 years on, the ache from a thoughtless reminder - as in the story you shared - can be unwelcome. For sure the decision-makers behind some of the things this site does are ethically challenged. I've been a member here for roughly a decade - a long time, ya - and it has been evident for awhile that many of the members active here back when, have gone away for good. I have to say I was disappointed - not surprised, but still disappointed - that when my paid-membership was a couple of weeks from expiring . . . my auto-renew is set to OFF . . . the site began flooding my notifications with bogus appearances by many, many appealing profiles that had been dormant for 10 years or more. Of course when I clicked those supposedly-online profiles, there was nobody there. The profiles remained dormant. Same drill with blog-posts. The site flooded my notifications with alerts that so-and-so-blogger . . . last seen on this site 5 or 8 or so years ago . . . had updated their blog. I was skeptical since I considered some of those bloggers to be my good friends who I knew had stopped blogging here. Sure enough, when I clicked on the bogus-new-post links, there had been nothing posted in many years, every time. No point wondering how dumb the operators of this site think we are. Rather, I suspect that they simply believe we are as dumb as THEY are. Which is why they continually try to scam users of this site, instead of investing to improve things. Grrrr . . .

Yes, there seems to be a lot more site generated click bait these days. My profile is frequently viewed by too good to be true beauties who leave no other trace of themselves. Sometimes I get the same badly worded message form two different new faces, and I too have had notification of non-existent blog comments from old friends who never post here anymore. That is so upsetting for you - I was caught out for while thinking a friend was back, but I couldn't actually find the comment. Then I saw someone else complaining about it and realised what was going on. I can understand why they want to try to tempt us into paying for gold membership with tempting profiles (although it does rather make me question the ethics of the sites owners,) but this, as you say, seems to be just a way of quickly upsetting their long term members. Then there is the old missing word syndrome - I see this latest post of yours has words obviously missing. Why are they unable to sort that out? Sometimes it doesn't really matter, but I have had posts where the meaning of the sentence has been totally altered by the omission of a word. Yours, Disappointed of Bloghampton.

I've turned off just about all of the notifications the site generates just because I suspect many of them are fabricated. But sending a notification from a long-dormant profile (OK, they may not know the owner is deceased) is rather underhand and is it any wonder it could upset some people. I hope they pay particular attention to your message and they give a worth apology. And that they never use that tactic again.

I pretty well was of the same opinion on the notifications, I just ignore them. I had to have heart surgery last fall, and it was kinda iffy on the outcome. I have a couple of bloggers here that was asking how to find out how it went. I ask a female friend if she could put a update on here if things went bad. I gave her my handle and password. I ask her to do the update then two weeks later to delete my account. She said she would. I figured it was a good idea to have a backup plan. Ha ha she did sign in went through my blog and said she enjoyed reading it and enjoyed the pictures. Ha ha it's pretty funny because I am not that comfortable with many people, and just lucky she's a good sport Anything worth doing is worth doing right

This site has more bullshit than a Texas Rodeo...

I know a number of bloggers that were once gold members, are now standard members. That's where you can lose track over time. Not that you can blame them.

I noticed how annoying the notification bar was when I first came back. A few times I was pleasantly surprised (or so I thought) to see that someone I hadn't seen in years had commented on my blog. When I clicked on the notification it brought me to a year-old post or a 5 year-old post. I found that pathetic so I turned off all the notifications. Sorry you had to feel o badly about it.

I have all notifications turned off from the site. I don't get any emails sent to me either. They are the ultimate con artists and I wouldn't believe the Lord's Prayer out of their mouths. So sorry this happened to you. ~~Anais Nin~~

Such a shame it's gone downhill. Thank goodness us oldies who've been here a long time know what the site's up to, but I guess there are enough newbies that believe all they see on here.

Had fun with a few scammers a while back when the site gave me a free gold ball. Played them along for a while, then let them have it.

The site should delete their profile if there's been no activity for maybe a couple of years. Should they want to return, they can create a new profile.

Told him to do a blog . He's a bit of a prude, so hope he'll do it for me.

I too fell for it when I was a new member. The points are pretty useless these days, you used to be able to use them for all sorts of things. They'll do anything to get you to pay for membership. I've been on here a long time, and just keep hanging in there, in the hope of the site getting better. Plus there are still a few bloggers from way back that I've been following.

My main page has gone back to the old look to when I first joined. Also ok the advice line used to be full of BS along with some good articles, but now sometimes a week goes by without a new item showing. could be because I've gone back to being a standard member.

I have to ask.... what ever happened to Roy? I know its been a long time! He sprung a leak which I couldn't find, so had trouble standing for a photo shoot. Was hard to take a good shot. I do miss him, he was a lot of fun.

I'd love a chat with you again, even better now that we can do much better video chats than were possible a few years ago. But I'm not sure if I have your current number. Mine hasn't changed. Have a feeling I might have sent you a message a while back on the facey page.??
