Changes are not always better.

A couple of years ago, I found a great radio station.
Nine out of ten songs were great. Told all my friends to tune into it.

Never put on a CD anymore, that's how good the station was.

When my went out, I would sing along (painful to all ears but my own).

The whole house was my dance floor. My only audience was my cat. Who after a short time got bored watching me making a fool of myself, would curl up and go to sleep.

I could be 'Dancing in the Dark,' kicking up my heals to 'Copperhead Road.' Telling the world how strong I was with U2s' 'With of without You and Still haven't found what I'm looking for.'

The list goes on and on.

Then what happens a couple of weeks ago?
The name of the station gets changed. But the worst of it is.......so has the music being played.

Now the great songs are being played less, so less singing and dancing for me.

Will have to go through my CD collection, or make some compilations. I can't not have good music playing in the background.

And the relentless adverts didn't bother you?

I also need music playing to remind me that I am still alive and the iPod had been a Godsend.

I loaded up each and every one of my CD's (even the worst CD has at least one redeeming track) and then set about compiling a few playlists.....such as my favourite listening tracks, background music etc. Then all you have to do is set the iPod to shuffle as it plays your chosen playlist. And you know what, this is so much better than playing the individual CD's because not only have you culled only your favourite tracks but also it does not play 20 tracks of Elton John followed by 16 tracks of Frank Sinatra followed by 22 tracks of Deep Bloody Purple. They are all nicely jumbled up just like the radio....without the adverts.

I am lucky enough to have piped music in my house that I can hook my iPod into but there are plenty of neat little players you can also hook into....and when you take a drive you can also hook up that same iPod to your car stereo system with an FM transmitter gadget you can buy from Dick Smith. I never leave home without it.

Sir Teezalot

WAR IS ABSURD

Thought I mentioned how hopeless I am with computers. Much easier to press a few buttons, till I find something I want to listen to.

I usually write a list of songs I like, so when my daughter visits, she burns me a few new CDs to listen to.

Maybe it was due to the lack of ads that made the radio station go broke.

The ad breaks gave me a chance to sit down and have a rest.

I do prefer compilations, except my U2 greatest hits. Got to the stage that my kids asked if I had any other CDs.

Ever try iTunes radio? They've got just about everything on there.

And the current upsets your boat

Don't think of things that might have been

Just lay on your back and float

It's how you handle them that counts.

Not heard of that.
Can I access it through the computer?
I asked my son and he wasn't sure.

Just like anywhere including on here innit! ...... Why f*** with something that isn't f****d.

Over here a while back we had a variety of local stations each with their own names and individuality. Heart was the main London one. 2Ten FM was my local and that suddenly changed to Heart. Then I was driving towards Oxford and thought I'd tune in to Fox FM and yep, you guessed it ... It was named Heart! They've all been merged with Heart and all playing much the same stuff, sometimes at the same time!

I generally listen to Absolute (that was Virgin!) as they play loads of rock rather than pop. Although I do like pop as well.

Oooh you have a collection of cross dressers lol. Happy CD compiling

They are getting worse on here.

That's stupid having all those different radio stations, when they are all the same.

Thanks for explaining the 'Cross Dresser' bit.

You need to download iTunes to your machine. I have it because I buy music from there and have an iPod. On the left hand side of the page there are headings for Library, Store, Playlists...the Radio is under the Library heading. I often listen to a station under the "International/World" category called Classical Guitar - SKY.FM /A mix of Classical, Spanish, and Flamenco guitars | www.sky.fm...some groovy sounds if you're into that sort of thing.

If you have more eclectic tastes, there is a local radio station that streams on the web ... radiomilwaukee dot org. (88nine radio milwaukee)

Sounds very interesting.

Bummer. My favourite station changed its playlist style a bit too, and I don't like it so much any more. Still, there are usually some forgotten gems lurking in the record collection, waiting to be rediscovered!

Picked up two record players for nothing a while back.
Have stored them in the garage. Maybe I should dig them out, clean them up and play some of my LPs for old times sake.
Sure my son would get a laugh out of it.

It has gotten worse.
The 'Has been' Alice Cooper now hosts the evening time slot.
He makes jokes that only he finds funny. He really has turned out quite sad.
Will have to take up a collection and send him home.
