 You DO have the option of switching it so that it says you're busy.

Although I, like you, would much prefer an option that lets me turn it off, ENTIRELY.

Just 1 more indication of this sites marketing program of "fake availability" and "lies and empty promises".

I do use the option to put "busy" on my status. Which lasts for most of the day/night. It's when I forget to put myself on status that wears me out. It isn't like this site is going to listen to those few of us that really don't want to use the various "new" innovations. Such is life, just ridiculous that we can't completely opt out of the IM feature!
