Ten Things About Blogging

This is my 499th post, so I'm in a bit of a reflective mood, trying to make sense about why I've spent so much time writing here.

So here goes:

In my experience blogging:

1. Is the best thing about this site. You can really express yourself in a sexually free environment and get to know other bloggers in a much broader way than looking at all too often limited profiles.

2. Is a very sociable activity, because it’s not solely about writing your own stuff in a “me-me-me” way but it’s equally about reading and acknowledging material that others have written. It’s very much two-way authorship, where readers also write and writers read. Barring a little feather-pecking on Colony Blog, on the whole it’s a friendly, even loveable place to roost and write.

3. Is highly educational. In a more Wikipedia than Encyclopaedia Brittanica way. You have to take some of what you read with a pinch of salt, but by ‘eck, as they’d say in Yorkshire, the collective knowledge about erotica is vast, albeit in a disorganised state of constant flux and chaos.

4. Is flirtatious, Somehow, because it’s all in the Blogosphere, a cheeky remark raises a smile and often gets a cheekier response. Which gets a bigger smile in return, and so on. I’m sure all that smiling releases endorphins which result in my next point.....

5. Is addictive. You’ve got to be very careful not to get over-obsessed with it.

6. Is cursed! The more successful you become, the more you have to respond to all those wonderful fellow bloggers who have commented on your blog, and the more pressure you put on yourself to create new material for folks to read. I don't know how some bloggers with a much bigger following manage, unless they've made an infernal deal to get 30 hours in their days.

7. Is creative. Or as creative as you want it to be. So let that muse of yours fly free!

8. Is saucy. It has to have just a touch of spicy naughtiness about it, otherwise you might as well be on a mainstream site.

9. Is individual. No one’s going to dictate what you post or how you go about doing it. And feck 'em if they try! Vive la difference!

10. Is fun! So carry on your writing, creating and posting, dear blogfriends. Just share the love - there's plenty to go round!

Of course it’s lots of other things too, but I did promise myself that I’d stop at ten.

So hmmmm, dear blogfriends, neighbours on Colony Blog, what have I missed?

I'm not sure how you've managed the almost 500 posts. Congratulations on that. I've been out of stuff to say for a while now! The only thing I'd add to the list is that this is where all the grammar skills are...

I started a while ago, so even though I've come and gone from here they've just added up all the while. There's a little part of me that says, "Oh, that's interesting!" or "That's amusing!" or "That could trigger a naughty rhyme," and I make a note that goes into storage.

Thank you for dropping by and commenting. You are in the process of creating an intelligent and interesting blog yourself, which I've enjoyed reading, so thanks for opening that door too.

I like that blogland is a place to write out fantasies, express frustrations, contemplations and observations. Some bloggers seem to be caught in a very one track formulaic way of blogging and other are more anything goes. So it is a bit like a buffet really. Pick and choose what you want to read.

I am also always surprised at the variety of people that read our blog. People from all over the world and I have no idea how they found our blog.

I used to have a lot of fun here at one point but now I dunno why I'm back on here I guess because I do like expressing myself in ways thats I cant on other mediums. it was a cool place and still is for the most part. Excellent post.

Please, just call me diggy.

Hey diggy, I don't know how I've returned, but there is some kind of draw. Still a nice place to be.

Spot on warmandsexy52 - I've experienced and agree with all of your top ten and I've only been blogging for a scant 4 months. The blogging community on LesbianPersonals is rich and diverse and naught (root of naughty) exclusively regulated to sex posts only - although most enjoyable sometimes my right hand cramps (yes, my dominant hand) and there is evidence left to indicate I've been "reading". After a few more months of visiting LesbianPersonals's blogland, I'll probably piggyback off of this blogticle - hope you don't mind, as I'm can be quite gentle from behind when called for.

Thank you for dropping by and leaving a comment. Blogland truly is a rich and diverse place and has a greater sense of connectedness than the rest of this site. You are welcome to draw on what I've written at any time - I would take that as a compliment.

Warm blogging is a wonderful place to try out new things like stories. Something you might not do on FB. I agree with you there on everything. I returned back to blog land a few months ago and so happy I did. I love reading what others are writing from all over the world. hugs V

I agree. That chance to test things out is a real bonus. I never realised I could have so much fun with poetry until I came here. In fact it's renewed my interest in Shakespeare because the sonnet is such an elegant form, Doctor Seuss, because he is such a genius at meter and rhyme, war poets, because it is such a masculine aspect of poetry, and so on.

It's also good for "immediate writing" which is a way round writer's block mid-novel.

Love what you write too, although you're pretty hard on with Victoria. Did I say "hard on?"

You are right. I never thought of it as a place for writers to read.

It took me a while at first to figure that. Then the penny dropped! Of course, ninety percent of the people who were commenting also had blogs, practically all of which were interesting in their own individual way. Blogging was every bit as much about visiting, reading and commenting as it was about writing, and so much to be learned along the way too!

I agree with everything you have said....this is a wonderful place for blogging....but blogging here should come with another health warning....don't put too much of your feelings out there....I used to write more from my heart and have had to learn the hard way that I shouldn't.

"Age does not protect you from love, but love, to some extent, protects you from age."

warmandsexy52 replies on 11/27/2013 3:34 am:

Personally I do think that I've got to be measured about what I write, so I've got a set of unwritten rules I abide by. One is never write directly and descriptively about a real sexual experience, because it can either come across as crowing or sniping, neither of which is attractive in my book. The other is to be discreet. I have no idea who's reading the blogs and the sense of privacy is a form of liberation. I think writing directly from the heart can create its own vulnerabilities, and much as the vast majority of readers are benign, not all are, not to mention those unintended but gauche reactions from others. I think most - maybe all - of us learn such lessons from experience.

You summed it all up perfectly. One thing I would change about the blogs here is the way to respond to posts. It is hard to respond to responses and then respond to THOSE responses. I would have designed it differently.

I couldn't agree more. So many times I've wanted to continue the dialogue when I get a response from another blogger. Technically, I wouldn't have thought that to be too difficult and I am sure it would enhance Blogland

hello warmandsexy52 sweetie

I pretty much agree with all of your ten points ,, but there is one thing about blogland that I don't like
that its like a secret land ,, many people I chat to don't know LesbianPersonals has a blogland ,, or
if they do know ,, they think its part of the paid members part of the site so have never tried to visit

ive asked LesbianPersonals to make it more visable / better known about ,, but alas I have failed
still as it where the smart people are ,, maybe I should just wait and see who finds their own way

happy blogging my dear warm

I agree, dear scarlet. I originally stumbled across it quite by accident. I wonder if more publicity would change it? It would certainly give bloggers more exposure, which is I guess the oxygen of writing online.
