Giving in to musical urges
Giving in to musical urges Are there any drummers on here? Of course the word "drummer" makes me think of Animal of the Muppets playing on his drums. Or images of the Christmas Drummer Boy or Marching bands. I've just made a decision... sometime this year I am buying a doumbek. And/or a bodhran I've always loved drums. I pick out the drum beat in songs even when subtle. While riding in a friends truck a few months ago I wasn't thinking, just tapping on the door, and he was highly impressed. "You've got great rhythm!" And I drum on my steering wheel ALL the time. I tap at my desk. Tap on my thighs. The only problem is if I'm drumming... how can I dance? Conundrums. Do you play an instrument? More than one? What enticed you to start playing? |

Oh yes, what a conundrum...dancing or drumming...for you, I definitely vote for the dancing because I would love to watch you. Once upon a time and galaxy far, far away, I played the bass guitar and I really liked it, but life happened (namely a kid) and things changed. I can play the drums, and funnily the Bodhran too ! The latter you can play and dance !!!! Best way to learn how to beat is get yourself some good quality ear phones that can dull the sound of the drums enough so as you can hear both perfectly and just let fly ! Started playing for the classic reason at that age, impress girls by being in a band !!

My problem with dancing and drumming at the same time is the type of dancing... kinda requires both hands, arms, and lots of twirling lol. I'm sure it can be done but.... not the same.

When I saw that you were asking if any one here was a drummer, my immediate thought was, "Oh, do you need someone who is going to sleep on your couch for six months and not pay any rent??" I was in the high school band.. and yeah, band camp.

As you know ... and have seen ... I have a guitar and bass. I don't play them much anymore. I was inspired to pick up the guitar way back in the 70's by Tony Iommi the guitarist for Black Sabbath. I learned to play quite a few of their songs but doubt I can get completely through one now before my fingers would cry "NO MAS". AB No Bozos

"...the word "drummer" makes me think of Animal of the Muppets..." And, in turn, Animal of the Muppets was based on The Who's drummer Keith Moon... Not sure if anybody reads comments if I leave them here but... I believe I found my doumbek. It's not as glamorous as the ones pictured above, not so exotic. Also costs much less... but after looking at hundreds across all price ranges, and listening to different drummers on u.Tube and different styles... I found the doumbek style and drum head I liked the sound of best... and found one that filled me with lust. My entire core just said "AAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!" I was hit with an adrenaline rush and I'm still quivering inside. It's beautiful in it's own right. And affordable. Now... just gotta wait till payday.

This idea from Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars song. Been playing for a while now, some of this learning curve is pretty sweet. Can find most songs pretty quick and chord and some lead via the net . Be sweet to hook up with some people hang out and find each others groove and perhaps share some erotic things together. Make love not war is a lyric in a song or 2 I'm sure, what key is it in to start a musical adventure ?
